WELCOME TO THE YMCA OF YORK AND YORK COUNTY WEBSITE
The YMCA of York and York County was founded in 1855, originally as a gathering place for young men who had moved from farms into the city to work in factories. They met at several locations before building the current Downtown York branch at 90 N. Newberry Street in 1926. In 1985, a branch in Dover opened, in 1995, the Southern York County Branch in Shrewsbury opened and in 2000 the Eastern York County branch was established.In 2006, over 20,000 youth and family members participated in YMCA programs and services. Over $525,000 was awarded in direct charitable subsidy.
