The YMCA of York County responds to community needs by...
Serving all incomes, ages and abilities Serve more than 40,000 people in diverse communities within York County. We bring together young and old, men and women, people of all faiths, backgrounds and incomes. No one is turned away for inability to pay. Scholarships, subsidies and outreach provide critical access to low-income families. Provided $844,749 in financial assistance and subsidies for children, youth, families and individuals.

Children: The YMCA serves 13,663 members – 35% of those members were children and youth. The YMCA provides a wide range of activities to foster healthy, productive children including afterschool programs and activities, sports, family nights, day camps and more. All youth activities incorporate the YMCA Core Values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Low Income Families: The YMCA offers high quality child care services to working families and provides financial assistance as needed to ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate. Seniors: One of the fastest growing segments of YMCA membership is individuals over 60 years of age. The YMCA provides aquatic and land-based fitness classes, personal training, a warm-water pool and more to specifically meet the needs of this population.

Disabled/ Other: The YMCA is proud to offer our services to those that need adapted swim lessons in our warm-water pool, as well as one-on-one personal training. Non-members: The YMCA provides free health fairs/screenings, exercise and nutrition activities for members and non-members, all of which is valued at $14,000 in benefit to the community. Other Nonprofit Organizations: The YMCA provides 500 free summer pool passes to 20 other nonprofits and community service organizations for access to YMCA aquatic facilities. We offer meeting space at little or no charge to community service groups to help them face broader
community challenges.

Mobilizing community resources to meet community needs Locally Driven: The YMCA of York County was created by local communities based on a regional needs assessment and is controlled by a board of local community volunteers. Contributed Income: Received $708,057 in support from annual community contributions, United Way, and foundation grants. Volunteer Hours: The YMCA mobilizes 1,488 volunteers. These volunteers contribute $229,102 worth of their time to give back to the community. Key Partnerships: Recognizing the importance of collaborations, the YMCA works with Healthy York County, Susan Byrnes Health Center, WellSpan, Highmark, Housing Alliance, American Red Cross, New Hope Charter School, Lincoln Charter School, City Church, York City Fire and Rescue, Children’s Home of York, ARC, Special Olympics, YWCA, 7 York County public school districts, and many other local organizations. Relieving the Burden of Government: The YMCA received $244,137 in Government Funding, including grants, contracts and vouchers to provide front-line service that relieved the burden for government to provide many of these services.

Promoting healthy lifestyles to prevent obesity Health Crisis/Childhood Obesity: The YMCA has a longstanding dedication to providing programs and services that build health of spirit, mind and body for all. We continue this commitment today by engaging and supporting children and all health seekers – individuals of all ages who wish to pursue a healthy lifestyle, but struggle to do so.
