Email DirectorDover YMCA Pre-School
Ages 2 - 5
We offer a partial day preschool program at the Bob Hoffman (Dover) YMCA branch. We strive to meet the social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs of children in a safe and nurturing learning environment for children ages 2-5. As a YMCA program, we will promote the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility through our actions and words. Since children learn best by being actively involved, a “hand-on” approach is used in all areas of the curriculum.
We encourage children to explore the world around them by exposing them to a variety of experiences and media. Math activities help each child learn to count and recognize numbers, shapes, and sizes. Language arts incorporates dramatic play, storytelling, puppets, rhymes, finger plays, expressing thoughts and feelings, and recognizing letters. Art activities encourage creativity, color recognition, and the development of fine motor skills, including early writing skills. Music is used throughout the program to foster music appreciation and develop students’ listening skills and ability to follow directions. Children discover science by studying the weather, learning how plants and animals grow, and exploring how the world around us changes. Children learn to appreciate the world around them by developing an understanding of how their families, friends, community helpers, and organizations come together to build their community. Our 4/5’s and Pre-K classes have gym class and French & sign language built into their curriculum weekly.
We encourage each child to develop:
- A sense of belonging
- The capacity to trust people and feel secure with others when away from home
- A curiosity about the world
- The ability to take pleasure in learning and exploring the world
- Independence
- A positive sense of self and control over one’s own behavior
- The ability to comprehend language and events, and to express oneself effectively
Admissions
Admission is based upon the date the registration form and fee are received by the Bob Hoffman YMCA. Children must be the class age they are entering by the first day of that class. Pre-K class students must be 4 or 5 years old. The YMCA accepts children regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, or handicap.
