CHILD CARE

Mindy Miller

Child Care Coordinator
Mindy has been with the YMCA since 2005.  She has five years experience in the field of early childhood education. She received her Bachelors degree in Child Development and Family Relations from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2004, and expects to obtain her Masters degree in Early Childhood Teaching and Curriculum in December of 2007 from Penn State University. In addition to her commitment to the YMCA, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband Corey, and her daughter Cassidy.

Laura Yoakum

Director of Housing and Residential Services
Laura joined the YMCA of York and York County two years ago and is dedicated to providing supportive services for the homeless male population in York.  She is a 1994 Graduate of York College of Pennsylvania with a BS in Psychology.




COMMUNITY SERVICES AND YOUTH

Craig Wolf

Associate Executive Director of Community Development and Youth
Craig has been a member of the YMCA of York and York County team since 1995.  His experience with the YMCA reaches back to 1978, when he worked in a number of capacities for YMCA branches in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Sunbury, Pennsylvania.  He was, at various times throughout his career, a Youth Director, Camp Director, Physical Director, Aquatics Director, and Director of Community Services before assuming his current role.

Craig took an 11-year break from his YMCA career to be a missionary in Toulouse, France from 1983 to 1994.  While in Toulouse, Craig volunteered for the local YMCA.  He also started a relief organization that shipped food, clothing and other necessities to refugees in Croatia and Bosnia during the Balkan War with Serbia.  He leads the York YMCA’s international efforts and teaches the international component of Principles and Practices for the YMCA of the USA.

Craig has a degree in Youth Ministry from Oklahoma Christian University and a diploma in French from the University of Toulouse, France.  Currently, Craig leads neighborhood development and youth efforts for the YMCA. 

He is married to Debbi and has three children.

AQUATICS

Matthew Anstine

Aquatics Director
Matt has been a member of YMCA of York and York County since 1981.  He has held several positions throughout the facility over the years.  Matt assumed his current role as Aquatics Director in November 2006. 

Previously, Matt was the Head Lifeguard at the University of Pittsburgh.  He has also worked as Aquatics Director at the Kaiserman JCC in suburban Philadelphia.  Matt volunteered for the American Red Cross as a lifeguard instructor, and for the Allegheny County Special Olympics.  He is currently volunteering with the American Red Cross as a Health and Safety Services Instructor. 

Matt graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in History and Philosophy of Science.  He has Certified Pool Operator and Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicators (Category 24; swimming pools) Licenses.  Matt’s father was a YMCA swim team member in the 1960's and still holds two York YMCA swimming records.  Matt’s mother, Julie Anstine, works as a Customer Service Representative and Massage Therapist at the York branch.

Karen Ruppert

Associate Executive Director, Aquatics and Fitness – Dover, Eastern & York Branches
Karen joined the YMCA of York & York County in 1991 as the Fitness Coordinator for the Dover branch, and became the Branch Director in 1999.  In 2006, she was promoted to her current position, assuming oversight of fitness and aquatics at three YMCA locations.

Karen received a BS degree from York College of Pennsylvania in 1984.  She holds YMCA Director, Fitness Instructor and Trainer Level certifications and is a certified American Red Cross CPR instructor.

Cori Strathmeyer

Fitness Coordinator
Cori has worked in the fitness industry since 1984 as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.  She joined the YMCA of York and York County in 1994 as a member and became part of the staff shortly thereafter.  Cori holds a BS in Biology from Dickinson College and is certified by the American Council on Exercise as a Personal Trainer.  She is also a faculty member for the YMCA of the USA and regularly teaches YMCA certifications at the local YMCA branches and other regional events.

Cori and her husband, Brian, both believe in the YMCA mission and have therefore become involved in various aspects of the YMCA.  All 4 of the Strathmeyer children have grown up spending many years in Child Watch and at Camp Spirit, as well as participating in youth sports.  All 4 competed on the Y gymnastics team as well as the Y swim team.  Brian II, Paige, and Bradley are still members of the swim team and can be found in the water at 5:30 AM or 5:30 PM!  Morgan now spends her time as a member of a premiere dance company, but volunteers her time to help with YMCA activities.  As the chairperson for the Activate America Initiative, Cori's focus is on combating childhood obesity.  She would like all kids to enjoy active play and believes that the Y can help make a difference, just like it has for her own family.
