7th Grade

This program seeks to establish the Y as an important resource for young teens while providing a safe and healthy environment where they can meet friends and participate in value based programming. All 7th grade participants receive a FREE YMCA Membership for the entire school year.


8th Grade Bridge

8th Grade

The 8th grade program aims to bridge the gap between middle school and high school. As a follow up to the 7th Grade Initiative, the 8th Grade Bridge seeks to sustain the teachings and support of the Y by providing a safe place where students can continue to develop personally and academically.


Camp Discovery – Southern Branch YMCA

Ages 5 - 12

Camp Discovery offers summer fun for school age children.  Activities include trips, science, swimming, sports, and more that provide lessons in healthy living.  A safe, nurturing, fun experience is provided by well-trained staff who impart the YMCA core values of: faith, hope, love, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Learn More

Camp Spirit

Ages 5 - 16

Camp Spirit is located on 14 acres of outdoor space. Campers participate in a wide variety of programming that includes swimming, archery, indoor gaga pit, amphitheater and an arts & crafts center. Campers enjoy the summer with sports, games, a rock climbing wall, lodges and more. Many activities are related to theme days. Free child care is available during scheduled hours for YMCA Members who work out in the wellness center, participate in a group exercise class, use the pool or open gym. Ages vary by branch.

Competitive Stroke Clinics

Ages 12 - 18

Throughout the year York YMCA Swimming offers specialized clinics and mini-camps. These sessions are open to all competitive swimmers and focus on stroke development, starts, turns, and the mental aspects of improving performance.


Creative Dance

Ages 3 - 12

This is a beginner level dance class, pre-ballet or beginner ballet & creative movement. Participants are required to bring ballet shoes, leotard and tights. Classes run in ten-week sessions.  Offered in early fall, early winter and early spring at the Bob Hoffman Dover Branch.


Daddy Daughter Dance

All ages

Join us for a night of fun at the York Branch YMCA to celebrate a good time with Daddies and Daughters (Grandpas and Uncles are welcome too!) The night includes dancing to music provided by a DJ, refreshments, and quality bonding with friends and family.

Part-Day Preschool Summer Camps

Our hands on theme based camp for children ages 3 to 6, incorporate outdoor activities, movement, crafts and more. The main theme is FUN! Camps are held Monday – Thursday from 9 – 11:00 A.M. Please register no later than noon Friday prior to the camp to secure a spot. Spaces are limited.

Girls Who Code

6th-10th Grade

Girls Who Code is a FREE program for 6th-10th grade girls where girls work in teams to use their coding skills and bravery to solve a real world problem they care about. Meetings are hosted every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the York YMCA.

Group Basketball Training

Ages 6-11

In a group setting, participants will be divided based on their skill levels and gain skill enhancement above and beyond their current knowledge and abilities. Instruction provided by Kingdom Abound instructors with years of high level play and instructing experience. Program offered on a monthly basis during the months of Oct., and Nov. 2019, for ages 6-11.  Register per month, no later than three business days prior to the start of the upcoming month.

Healthy Weight and Your Child

Ages 7-13

Healthy Weight and Your Child focuses on healthy eating, regular physical activity and behavior change to empower children to live a healthier and active lifestyle. Families work with trained Leaders for the duration of the 25-session program. Learn more.

Homeschool Swim

Instructional swim ages 5 - 18

Introduces swimmers to the team sport of swimming. Levels of novice to expert, swimming in a healthy competitive environment with great coaching and instruction.


Intro to Lacrosse

Ages 5-9

In this program participants will learn the fundamentals of lacrosse. Participants will learn the sport of lacrosse through fun games and drills. This program is intended for the player with little or no lacrosse experience. This program is offered in the fall and spring seasons.

Ages 3 - 6

The class will teach children that fitness is fun and also ways to keep their body, mind, and spirit healthy. The children receive a daily healthy snack during their time in Kid Fit.

Kids Night Out is offered one Friday of each month (excluding summer months) from 6:00-9:30pm. There will be fun activities including roller skating, arts & crafts, swimming, and gym activities. Pizza will be provided the night of the event.

Kids Triathlon

A youth swim, bike, run event for kids ages 7 and older.  Hosted by the York YMCA Aquatic Club, this event encourages youth to try a new sport.  Free swim clinics are included in the registration.  Learn more


Nerf Tag

Ages 6-11

Nerf tag is an exciting game that attracts all ages and abilities. Players work together on teams for capture the flag while playing with nerf guns.  This program is offered in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Held at the Southern and Bob Hoffman Branches.

This program is designed to be a fun introduction to the water. Emphasis is placed on water acclimation and safety. This class prepares the child for swim lessons without a parent.

An opportunity for parents to take the time they need, while their child enjoys a fun-filled evening of games and activities in a safe environment. Second Friday Night of each month. 5:30pm-8pm. Stroke Development

Instructional swim ages 6 - 12

Students in stage 5 work on stroke technique and learn all major competitive stokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke.

Students in stage 4 develop stroke technique in front crawl and learn the breaststroke and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by gaining two benchmark skills: Swim, float swim – sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll front glide, jump, push, turn grab and exit.

T-Ball – Spring Co-Ed League

Ages 4 - 8

For beginners and experienced players. Participants will learn and enhance their baseball/softball skills including throwing, fielding, hitting and more through instruction, practices and games. Youth who are ready to advance past hitting off the tee, will gain “soft-pitch” from the staff and coaches. This program begins in early April and is held at the Bob Hoffman YMCA only.

Join us for our 23rd Annual Turkey Trot 5K on Thursday, November 28, 2019 and burn some calories before your feast! Led by our biking turkey, this fun race is a great family activity that many have made a Thanksgiving Day tradition.  Learn more.

Volleyball – York Branch Girls Club

Ages 11 - 18

This program is for girls who want to practice and compete at a high school level. Practices are twice a week from December through May with weekend tournaments twice a month from January through May at locations throughout Pennsylvania. If you want to learn from highly qualified instructors and prepare for our intramural program, club volleyball and/or school volleyball the York Branch YMCA offers a three-day volleyball clinic.  Learn more


Water Acclimation

Instructional swim ages 3 - 5

Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water in Stage 1. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a students future progress in swimming.

In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.


Water Stamina

In Stage 3, students learn how to swim from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

Y Kids Club

Before and After School Care

The YMCA offers quality before and after school programs in elementary schools across York County. All programs are licensed by the Department of Human Services (DHS) and participate in Pennsylvania’s Keystone Stars Quality Assurance Program (STARS). Our curriculum is built based on the interest of the children and tie in to the PA Early Learning Standards. Full day care is available on days when school is closed.  Learn more

Y Readers

1st to 4th Grade

A reading program designed to help students improve their reading and writing skills and to address the achievement gap the nation faces.

The program runs for 7 weeks over the summer months. Students who participated in summer reading programs increases reading levels by 2.7 months. Y Readers are more confident and interested in their education than the average student. Participants receive educational tools, daily pool passes, and attend weekly educational field trips.

YMCA Competitive Swim Team

Competitive swimming ages 5 - 18

The York YMCA’s Competitive Swim Team is open to youth of all levels & abilities. It is the perfect program for those who love to swim but have never competed on a team It is ideally for those who enjoy competitive swimming but enjoy a low pressure, relaxed atmosphere. It is especially beneficial for high school swimmers wishing to stay in shape during the off-season. Swimmers compete in local swim meets that give them friendly competition and teach them sportsmanship and teamwork. Practice is held at two locations, the Graham Aquatic Center, located at 543 N. Newberry Street in York, and the York YMCA Southern Branch, located at 100 Constitution Ave in Shrewsbury.

York YMCA Child Development

Ages 1 - 5

Since the 1960’s, the YMCA of York County has been providing a quality, affordable child development program to families in the area. The Y’s Child Development Center’s primary purpose is to provide a quality early learning experience in an environment where parents will know their children are safe and nurtured. This child-centered program provides opportunities for growth, hands-on exploration and child-led learning through play.

Our child development program is licensed by the PA Department of Human Services. At 12-months and walking, children transition to our toddler room where exploration, social skills and language development are key focus areas. As skills develop, older toddlers, starting at 24-months, begin to work on toilet training. Once potty trained, children participate in weekly swimming lessons. Swimming is an important part of the weekly activities in our program.

In addition, the York Branch YMCA has two preschool classrooms for children ages three to five. Using the creative curriculum and learning centers, lesson plans are developed around the observed interests of the children. We strive to develop unique and enriching activities that encompass creative thinking, exploration of science and mathematics, inquiry, discovering, beginning literacy and community involvement.

The preschool classrooms implement the P.A.T.H.S. (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) Curriculum to enhance social emotional development. Within this curriculum, children learn to recognize their feelings and appropriate ways to express them.

This program aims to develop young men and women to be better citizens by being both knowledgeable and active in determining the future of our democracy. Students meet with other Youth and Government clubs, discuss, debate and propose legislation for change.

This class encourages creative expression and socialization activates including painting, drawing, collage, working with various utensils and materials to challenge sensory experiences. Ages 8 - 11

Youth enjoy fun and challenging fitness activities by utilizing a variety of tools and completing bodyweight exercises.  Ages 8-11. Offered at the York and Dover Branches.


Youth Soccer

Ages 4 - 11

This program for ages 4-11, is designed to introduce the sport of soccer and enhance skills in a team format through instruction, practice, and games. Outdoor soccer begins in mid-September at the York, Bob Hoffman, and Southern Branches. Indoor soccer begins in early February at the York and Bob Hoffman Branches, and November and March at the Southern Branch.


Youth Wellness Center Program

Ages 11-13

Youth learn to how to use cardio and strength equipment safely and effectively in this 4 class program.  A new fitness topic and skill is introduced each week.  Parental participation is required.
